Tina Ratzer

There's nothing in the world like the feel of biodynamic, merino wool from sheep bred under biodynamic control. Soft...ahhhh... This past week I had the pleasure of meeting the good people of Berin Design who introduced me to the work of Danish textile artist, Tina Ratzer. Tina's blankets are very different - they're made from 100% Australian, biodynamic, merino wool. In order to ensure that no harm is done to the environment, no moth repellents are used; the soaps and spinning oils are bio-degradable; the dyes contain no heavy metals; the textile is woven, then milled in cold water only without the use of any chemical soaps; and even the thread is made of organic cotton. Tina's designs are not patterns, but images. Depending on the way the blanket is folded, their expression changes. Each side of the blanket is different and is woven in one piece for a softer, felted look. Tina's commitment to her craft, as well as to the environment, is simply amazing!
